The Royal Castle in Warsaw is the former residence of the Polish Monarchy. The castle was almost completely destroyed after the failure of the Warsaw uprising in 1944. 1971-1984 saw the reconstruction of the castle, and many valuable works of art were donated by Poles living in Poland and abroad as well as from representatives of other countries. It is now a Unesco World Heritage Site.
