Client profile
English Heritage is a registered charity that preserves and manages over 400 historic buildings, monuments and sites across England — royal castles, historic gardens, forts and defences, and world-famous prehistoric sites. With highlights such as Stonehenge, Dover Castle, Tintagel Castle, and the best-preserved parts of Hadrian’s Wall, English Heritage aims to bring history to life, offering visitors hands-on and authentic experiences that will inspire and entertain.
Challenge
English Heritage is a large operation for Antenna to administer at 35 historic sites across England, liaising with several offices across the country.  Each site has different needs and varied peak seasons, so English Heritage needed a tour provider who could work with them as one account while offering bespoke content to reflect the story of each site. Flexibility and communication are key skills required to support such a large client portfolio.
English Heritage required audio tour content for adult, family and access tours that would bring the history of each individual site to life, provided with tour devices and maintenance, and delivered by a supplier with excellent project management skills.
Solution

Antenna International has worked with English Heritage for over ten years, providing a range of audio-tour content, including main tours, adult tours, family tours and access tours for the disabled community, and a full-service lease of tour device equipment and maintenance across their 35 sites.
Each site operates independently from the others, so Antenna liaises with Regional Administrators and key site stakeholders to manage logistics and ensure that each site is properly equipped with tour devices depending on the requirements of the season. On average, over 2,300 devices are in circulation during peak season.
Outcome
English Heritage is very happy with Antenna's work, as are the visitors to their sites:
  • "Absolutely beautiful views over the sea. Very interesting listening to the audio tour, the history of the place is fantastic." Visitor, Scarborough Castle
  • "I would recommend the audioguide. Lots of extra information. Visual tour is also fun to do. Easy to park." Visitor, St. Augustine's Abbey
  • "Wonderful to visit this important historic site with fascinating history. Would recommend the audio tour which is very well done. A must see if you are in the area." Visitor, Portchester Castle
Antenna is currently in production on 3 new tour updates for English Heritage in 2018, and English Heritage has extended their contract for another two years with Antenna.
