To Fence or Not To Fence?

February 21, 2017

In Sam Wainwright Douglas’s new documentary, Through the Repellent Fence: A Land Art Film, the theoretical divide between wall and border proves to be more than the stuff of geopolitical debate, becoming, instead, a potential site of transnational healing and self-determination.

In the U.S. and across the globe there is a larger than life debate underway on how to protect borders and still be a country, nation and world made better by our uniqueness and diversity. I find it refreshing that the artistic community and museums are exploring films, exhibits and art to expose the potential for transnational healing and self-determination.
